Squirrel asks man for help - you won't believe what happens next
Something was not right...
It was a Tuesday morning when a small brown creature approached Mike. It was clearly begging for help. Having worked as a veterinarian for years, Mike knew exactly what to do. There seemed to be something wrong with the animal, and it was slowly revealing that it had a baby with it.
Mike did everything he could to help the little animals. He prepared a shoebox, lined it with a towel, and fed them baby food through a pipette. Day after day, the animals started to recover. But one morning, when Mike woke up, they were both gone.
In the distance
This situation was extremely distressing. Mike was especially worried about losing the little creature that still needed urgent help. There was no choice but to search for them in the garden. When they were nowhere to be found in the garden, he even went to the nearby forest and spotted a squirrel in the distance...
Mike couldn't waste any time and ran towards the small animal. To his surprise, it looked exactly like the squirrel that had brought him the baby. As he got closer, he was certain it was the same one. The closer Mike got, the further it moved away. It seemed like it wanted to show him something.
The squirrel with a plan
This went on for a few minutes until the squirrel decided to stop in the middle of the forest. They had arrived at a place surrounded by trees. It looked like something out of a fairy tale, but something didn't seem right.
The squirrel stood there, waiting for Mike, and climbed up a tree. It went up and down, apparently indicating that something was wrong with it. Mike couldn't quite make out what the squirrel was trying to communicate.
Special tree
Mike stood still and stared at the tree for a few minutes. The tree looked completely normal, and he couldn't spot anything unusual. Mike thought that the animal might be playing a game, and he was about to turn back. Then, the squirrel hid in a hole in the tree and repeatedly stuck its head out.
Mike wanted to know what the animal was trying to tell him, so he approached the tree to see what was inside. The only hole in the tree was quite high up, and Mike realized he couldn't climb up. It dawned on him that the squirrel had something important to say.
Not an ordinary tree
When Mike tapped on the tree bark, he heard a hollow sound. Could it be possible that the entire tree was hollow and possibly hiding something inside? Mike needed to find out what was inside, so he went home to get some tools.
As Mike hurried back home, the squirrel hopped along behind him. Every time he looked over his shoulder, the squirrel was only a few steps away. Finally, they reached home, he fetched his tools from the shed, and set off again.
What could it be?
Mike couldn't imagine what the squirrel wanted to show him. It could be anything inside the tree. Money, diamonds, something related to a crime, or just a collection of forest objects. At this point, he simply had to find out what it was.
He used a drill and then a hammer to penetrate the tree bark. It took a while, but eventually, he cut out a circle and peered inside. He couldn't believe what he found there. Who would hide something like that inside a tree?
A Red Freezer
Hidden inside the tree bark was a bright red freezer, locked with a large padlock. Mike tried to open the lock with a hammer, but it held up. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't open the freezer yet.
Mike wondered if it was a good idea to take the freezer home to open it there. What if there was something inside that he shouldn't see? After contemplating the matter for a few minutes, curiosity overwhelmed him, and he decided to take the box with him.
Running home
On the way home, he wondered if he was holding something valuable in his hands. Why else would someone hide such an item in the woods? Mike had various ideas about its contents.
When he arrived home, Mike realized that the freezer emitted a strange smell. Nature had probably caused whatever was inside the box to decay. It wasn't a terrible smell, but somehow undefinable.
Breaking in with the drill
Now Mike set to work opening the box with a drill. The lock seemed very strong, and even with the drill, he had no chance. Mike thought of his good friend, who was a construction worker and could probably help him.
Mike reached for his phone and called Rick, who surely had the right tools for this task. Rick told him to come over when he had time; he would be happy to help with his project. Would they find out together what was inside the freezer?
Off in the car
Mike took the freezer and placed it on the back seat, along with his tool kit. He left the neighborhood and noticed that the streets were filled with parked cars. He had only the mysterious box in his mind and drove away.
Rick lived a few streets away, and Mike would soon arrive there. However, on the way to Rick's house, Mike noticed a car behind him. It almost seemed like it was following him. Could this have something to do with the freezer?
Car pursuit
Mike knew that no one could have known that he had found the freezer. He had only told Rick. Nevertheless, he decided to take a different route, just to make sure no one was following him. When Mike abruptly turned right, the stranger's car followed suit.
Eventually, Mike arrived at Rick's place, and the car that had been following him drove on. Mike glanced into the passing car and could see two men, but he didn't recognize them. Then he rang Rick's doorbell.
The right garage
Rick led Mike straight to his garage, which he had converted into a workspace. There, he had all kinds of machines, and Mike was excited because he realized that they could easily break open the box. Could it really be that simple?
No matter what the two tried, the lock wouldn't break. Rick was amazed at how much it seemed to withstand. He had never seen anything like it. Whatever was hidden inside, it did not want to be found. Disappointed, Mike drove back home with it.
What Was the Next Step?
On the way home, a strange feeling came over Mike that maybe he shouldn't have the cooler, and the owner could have sinister intentions. He thought it might be money or valuable items, or perhaps something illegal...
Mike was uncertain about what could be inside the freezer but decided to continue with the task at hand. He hoped for valuable items as they would change his life. Mike had been facing financial difficulties since losing his job, and this could be a way out.
Broken window
Mike arrived home, opened the front door, and stepped inside. Immediately, he realized he had stepped on glass. He looked up and saw that his window had been shattered. What had happened here?
Mike continued further into the house, and as he entered the living room, he saw that everything was turned upside down. The table was overturned, all the drawers were open and emptied - it was horrible. Someone had definitely been searching for something.
Connecting the dots
Mike now had to connect the dots - he knew that whoever had been here was looking for his freezer. The person had not stolen anything from his house, not even the expensive watch he was so proud of.
Calling the police seemed like the logical thing to do. It took only 10 minutes until a police car pulled up the driveway. They inspected the house and came to a conclusion that unexpectedly shocked Mike...
Further investigations
No fingerprints were found anywhere except for Mike's own fingerprints. Whoever had broken into the house knew exactly what they were doing. When the police asked if Mike could imagine who could have done this, he denied it and didn't utter a word about the freezer.
The police explained to Mike that it wouldn't be a good idea to stay at home that night as the intruder could come back. They asked him to spend the night at a hotel or with friends. Mike immediately thought of Rick and provided his contact number to the police.
Shocked by the news
After explaining to his friend what had happened, Rick immediately offered for Mike to spend the night at his place. Mike was still shocked by everything that had happened, and he was glad that he didn't have to be at home that night.
Rick's house provided him with a sense of security, and he managed to relax a little. They went to bed early that evening. Little did they know that something would happen that night for which they were not prepared.
Loud bang
In the middle of the night, Mike was awakened by a loud bang coming from Rick's house. He heard glass breaking, and it was evident that someone unauthorized had entered the house. Mike and Rick immediately got up to see what was going on. They recognized four men dressed in black standing in the living room.
"We don't want to cause any trouble, but you have something that belongs to us," one of the four men said. Rick didn't know what he meant, and Mike played dumb. Of course, Mike knew it had to be the red freezer, but he didn't want to give up so easily.
What Would They Do?
At this point, the situation became tense because it was clear that the men would do anything to get the freezer back. After pretending to be clueless for a while, Mike finally realized that they were probably in danger.
Mike understood that it was better not to start a fight with these men, and he would give them the freezer, which was still in the car. Mike took his car keys and gave the men what they demanded. Without saying another word, they took the freezer and ran to their cars.
Mike took a risk
Mike had hidden his phone in his pajama pocket and managed to take a picture of the license plates before they drove away. This was risky, but no one could stop him. He just hoped that none of the four men had noticed.
Still shocked, Mike called the police for the second time within 24 hours. They all lived in a quiet village, and such crimes rarely occurred. When the police arrived, he was surprised to see that it was the same officers as before.
Police on the way
It didn't take long for the officers to realize what had happened. They quickly understood that the two burglaries were connected. Mike's and Rick's stories matched, and they decided to take both of them to the police station to answer further questions.
Upon arriving at the police station, the officers were visibly angry that Mike had said nothing about the red freezer. This had been an important part of the information, and it was foolish not to mention it.
License plates
At this point, Mike understood that it had been foolish not to cooperate with the police. He showed them the pictures of the cars and license plates he had captured. Would this be enough to catch the men?
The license plates matched cars that had been stolen a few days ago. So, the police were dealing with professional criminals who needed to be apprehended urgently. The police now called for reinforcements.
Sighted!
For several days, there was no news from the police until two of the license plates were captured by cameras on the highway. Now, the police had an idea of where the criminals were heading.
At this point, multiple police stations worked together, and together they patrolled the neighborhood where they expected the cars to be. One of the officers got lucky, spotted one of the stolen cars, and immediately contacted the headquarters.
Preparing the team
They had at least found the cars of the criminals, and now the police had to take action. To be on the safe side, they sent a special unit to break into the house where the cars were parked in front of. Would the criminals be inside the house, and would the red freezer also be there?
On that day, the special unit was particularly lucky. All four men were inside the house, sitting in front of a computer. The red freezer was on the floor next to them. The police officers arrested the men and couldn't believe what they found inside the freezer.
The contents of the freezer
They had heard about a criminal organization a long time ago but had never received a real lead. They didn't know that they had stumbled upon this organization by chance until they saw the contents of the freezer. "We got them!" one of the officers said.
Inside the freezer was a tracking device and a small box containing a USB stick. The USB stick was filled with information, cryptocurrency accounts - a way the criminals were rewarded for their activities. Mike was also informed about the contents.
